Lady Eagles V. Aquilla Lady Cougars
On Friday, the Lady Eagles played a very important game against the Aquilla Lady Cougars. The Lady Eagles were fighting for third place in district and knew they had to win to stay at the top. Right away, the Lady Eagles got their game faces on and got the tip thanks to Julie Monroy’s (#22) height. After the Lady Cougars got a rebound, the Lady Eagles immediately went into a press and stole the ball quite a few times. After the first quarter, the Lady Eagles kept up the hard work, but had to unfortunately stop their rhythm due to Gracelyn Ramirez (#12) suffering from an ankle injury. After this, Morgan started to fall behind and by halftime, the score was 19-11, but the girls knew they could do better. This lead was beginning to deteriorate and everyone began to get a little nervous. It didn’t help that the Lady Eagles had eight fouls by the beginning of the fourth quarter. With the Lady Cougars being only five points behind, the game was getting intense. Both crowds were going crazy and cheering their loudest. Soon enough, Aquilla was only one point behind and the game was hectic. The Lady Cougars kept fouling though and Mia Garcia (#14) helped extend the lead by making her free throws. Finally the game ended with the Lady Eagles taking a dub and winning by six points. This week, the Lady Eagles play at Kopperl and have confidence they will do great. Come and support!
